12:10 PM Embedding a Strategic Employability Framework: Theory and Practice
UQ’s strategic approach to employability enhancement is based on experiential learning both within and beyond the curriculum. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) provides learning experiences that integrate academic theory with meaningful workplace practice within a purposefully designed curriculum. Experiential learning in the extracurricular space is similarly scaffolded for learners using the SEAL methodology developed with students as partners. By reflecting on and making meaning from these experiential learning opportunities, students are able to translate this into work based practice that improves their employability. This session will explore:
- The conceptualisation and articulation of an embedded strategic model for employability
- The primacy of experiential learning, and development of the SEAL methodology through engaging students as partners
- Leading a whole-of-institution change and accessing strategic funding to support employability
