After the reunification of the two German states, the nuclear power stations Greifswald and Rheinsberg were shut down with a total of 6 reactors and 3 reactors under construction. In the shortest possible time, the dismantling of nuclear power plants will have to be planned for the world's largest decommissioning project. The knowledge acquired in the dismantling of smaller nuclear facilities had to be implemented in industrial scale. For the dismantling, project management structures had to be created and the infrastructure at the power plant locations had to be adapted. In particular, the remote-controlled dismantling of the reactors would require new approaches. In addition to the remote-controlled disassembly and packaging of these components, the so-called large-component strategy has also been successfully developed. After removing the equipment from the reactor and auxiliary buildings, the decontamination of the building structure and the desired clearance are now the main task.
