Mr Gautam Aggarwal

In his capacity as Group Head & Senior Vice President of Domestic and Real-time Payment Systems, Gautam is responsible to (a) Expand Mastercard's partnerships with domestic switches and schemes; and (b) Commercialize Mastercard’s real-time payments assets and build a real-time payments business in Asia Pacific. Gautam identifies and leads discussions to partner with Financial Institutions, Governments, Local Networks, Digital Players, etc. to successfully execute on Mastercard’s Real Time Payments strategy for the region.

Gautam joined Mastercard in November 2014 as Senior Business Leader & Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development globally. In this position, he was responsible to lead strategy formulation and resource allocation on priority Mastercard initiatives. Gautam partnered with executives to provide them “hypotheses-based” thought leadership to develop strategies, and resource allocation / execution plans.

Amongst key initiatives, Gautam devised Mastercard's strategic rationale to acquire VocaLink, one of the leading providers of real-time payments technology in the world and extensive assessment of the evolving Indian payments landscape and Mastercard's strategy for the market that led to Mastercard’s commitment to invest $500Mn+ over 5 years.

Prior to joining Mastercard, Gautam was a Sr. Engagement Manager in the Corporate Finance & Strategy practice of McKinsey & Company, New York. At McKinsey, he worked in various industries including Banking, Private Equity, TMT, and Healthcare. He was an emerging leader in their North American Banking Practice, with a focus on Payments and FinTech. He started his career as a founding member of Deem, a Silicon Valley start-up, where he spent 8 years in various functions including software design & development, product management, and business development. At Deem, Gautam was instrumental in securing $100M in Round-D financing co-funded by Chase Capital and American Express.

Gautam received his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with Honors. Gautam also holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Cornell University and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, India. In between his MBA, Gautam spent his summer working at Bain & Company. 

After spending 19 years living and working in the US, Gautam moved with his family to Singapore in June 2018. In his free time, Gautam loves to spend time with his wife and twin boys.
