Cross River Rail Case Study: Lessons From Creating Operational Readiness For A Future Proof Rail Network Relying On ETCS and Automatic Train Operation Capability
At Cross River Rail, Simon Cook is heading up Qld Government’s efforts that act as the foundation for its intent to modernise its signalling systems and control environments. Through the staged rollout of ETCS which will be complimented by automation and digitisation, a vision for improved safety, productivity and capacity management across Qld Rail is being charted. In this session, Simon will cover experiences and lessons learned from:
"How Crossrail Delivered Complex Infrastructure Changes To Roll Out & Integrate ETCS L2 Across A Shared Network of Operators, Stakeholders and Legacy Systems"
The session attached is presented by Gary Rogers, ETCS Project Manager, from Crossrail (UK). The session covers 'How Crossrail Delivered Complex Infrastructure Changes To Roll Out & Integrate ETCS L2 Across A Shared Network of Operators, Stakeholders and Legacy Systems'.
As of 2021, Gary is proud to have helped the Elizabeth Line in Crossrail (running from Heathrow to Paddington) roll out ETCS L2 signalling which integrates well into the central network using CBTC. Having to overcome challenges with legacy systems on shared lines with Great Western Railways and Heathrow Express services, Gary will take you through the key decisions that enabled a cohesive and united push towards making the role of ETCS a reality in the rail network:
- Overcoming challenges with integrating CBTC, legacy and ETCS infrastructure and technology used across shared lines sitting on the Western Crossrail rail network
- Taking new approaches to project management to develop a shared vision and understanding of the future of the rail network
- Leveraging comprehensive simulation capabilities to test ETCS delivery effects across the end-to-end rail operations – from ground staff all the way to the operations centre
Ahead of the TCMS Summit 2019 we chat to
Peter Munro, General Manager for Network Operations at Metro Trains Melbourne
(Metro Trains). In this article Peter share Metro Trains’ new network strategy
that is opening lines of communication between drivers, control centres and
passengers, and optimising customer experience. Peter further delves into the
culture and change management strategies making this possible.
Ahead of the Train Control Management Systems 2019 summit we chat to Tony Eid, Executive Director, Future Network Operations at Sydney Trains, regarding their new facility and delve into the benefits of an integrated rail operations centre in regards to network efficiency and enhanced customer experience.
With over 700 million passenger journeys made on urban rail across Australia over 2016-17, and with Australia’s major cities experiencing major growth, rail network capabilities need to be up to speed. Keeping up with the latest technological developments and innovations is paramount to ensuring effective network optimisation and delivering services which align with customers’ needs.
Ahead of the Train Control and Management Systems Summit 2019, we take a look at how five rail operators are optimising their networks through technology and innovation in order to maintain customer satisfaction and ease of travel.
The Train Control Management Systems Summit is back! And the program is bigger than ever.
With the launch of the $12 billion Sydney Metro Northwest line in May 2019 and unprecedented investment in public transport to the tune of $32.2 billion, it is clear that train control systems are at the forefront of major upgrades taking place across the country.
Operators are currently implementing new technologies such as ETCS, CBTC & Automatic Train Control to optimise efficiency on the network. This in turn will relieve congestion, improve passenger experience and enable frequent and flexible travel. But the question remains of how to implement these new technologies in a cost efficient, safe way.
If you are in charge of operations, signaling or train control you will not want to miss this event!
Located in the heart of Europe Germany forms a central node in the European railway network with borders to many countries. There are 6 ETCS corridors crossing Germany, thus Germany forms the hub in rail traffic for people and goods and plays an important ...
