The trend in the offshore foundations seems to go towards flanged connections between the MP and TP since installations can be faster and more cost-efficient. With a view on the future of the industry and the current development trends, it is safe to assume that the WTGs are getting bigger with larger loads, which would require bigger and more bolts in the flanged connection. Therefore, within the workshop will be the trends be discussed, which will be seen to make the state of the art flange connection fit for the future. In addition and like seen in various presentation with in the IQPC conference, the existing flange connections have their own challenges and risks which also should be addressed in the workshop. The following aspects will be discussed:
State of the art flanged connections sizes, dimensions, limitations
State of the art challenges within the existing verification method environment
Need of inclusion of various aspects during design (pre tension losses, evenness of the flanges, time history, pre tensioning regime etc.)
Sealing concepts of the flanged connections – overview of sealing concepts and collected experiences
Future dimensions of flanged connections and availability of materials and products
Modifications of L-Flanges to T-Flanges or further
Fabrication requirements and capacities for bigger flanges
